Gema Briones is an Ibizan Director of photography. A graduate of ESCAC, she works mainly in Barcelona, Madrid and Valencia or wherever the job takes her.
As a DoP she has worked in fiction, documentaries and advertising. She also is a 2nd unit camera/DoP and has collaborated on TV series and adverts such as “Atrapa un Ladrón” (“Catch a Thief”), “El Ministerio del tiempo” (“The Ministry of Time”), “BMW” and “Decathlon”.
Her very versatile visual style is achieved using light as a source of inspiration and giving it meaning. This creative ability opens up a multitude of possibilities and nuances from subtle naturalist illumination to producing a deep shadow effect, from
the stylish light of fashion to the utilisation of contrasting colours.
Her priority is to adapt to the demands of each project, whether it be a documentary, a work of fiction, or a commercial.
For Gema, the challenge consists in being true to the unique style of each project and achieving a balance between the objective illumination of a given scene and the subtle, yet significant contribution of adding light.
